Theis to Whitmer: Unmask our kids

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Education and Career Readiness Chairwoman Lana Theis, R-Brighton, on Wednesday called on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to stop forcing Michigan K-12 schoolchildren to wear facemasks.

“This past week, governors in New Jersey, Connecticut and elsewhere eliminated their universal school masking requirements. It’s time for Gov. Whitmer to finally follow the science; which is why today, I call upon the governor to help put an end to the ridiculous and harmful policies forcing schoolchildren to wear facemasks here in Michigan.

“As leaders of our state, we need to make it clear that we stand with parents — not against them. Our children are suffering under the current broken policies, and it’s time that we allow parents, not government bureaucrats, to make health care decisions for their children again.

“I want the parents of Michigan to know I hear you. Gov. Whitmer, help our students and parents, and let’s end all school masking mandates in Michigan immediately.”
