Theis presents Lucas Vetter with special tribute

LANSING, Mich. Sen. Lana Theis on Wednesday welcomed Lucas Vetter and his family to the floor of the state Senate to present the Rose Township fourth grade student with a special tribute for his efforts to bring lifesaving LUCAS Chest Compression Systems to area fire stations.

“Lucas Vetter is an inspiration,” said Theis, R-Brighton. “His compassion, hard work and dedication to our community are an example of what we should all aspire to. This special tribute is an expression of our gratitude, and on behalf of the residents of the 22nd state Senate District, we thank Lucas for all he has done, and continues to do, to make our state a better, safer place to live.”

The LUCAS Chest Compression System automatically performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The $16,000-per-unit device frees firefighters, paramedics and medical technicians from having to switch every two minutes while performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Inspired by the device’s lifesaving capability, and undeterred by its cost, Lucas formed the Vetter Family Foundation in 2018 to raise funds to purchase and donate LUCAS machines to area fire departments.

To date he has raised over $64,000, and his foundation has gifted a LUCAS system to the Hamburg Township Fire Department and one to the Fowlerville Area Fire Department, and two systems to the Howell Fire Department.

The special tribute was signed by Theis, Sen. Ruth Johnson, Rep. Mike Mueller, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
