LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Lana Theis, R-Brighton, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Louisiana’s injunction against the Biden-Harris administration’s changes to Title IX:
“The Supreme Court’s decision today is a victory for common sense and the integrity of Title IX. This ruling ensures that schools remain safe spaces where biological distinctions are respected, not redefined by political agendas. I commend the court for recognizing the overreach of the administration’s attempt to alter a law that has been pivotal in advancing equal opportunities for women in education and sports.
“Title IX has been a beacon of equality, not a tool for social experimentation. Today’s decision reaffirms that boys and girls, men and women, deserve privacy and fairness in their educational environments. This is not just about bathrooms; it’s about preserving the essence of what Title IX was meant to achieve.
“I stand with Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill in her commitment to protect the original intent of Title IX. While this fight continues, we must remain vigilant against policies that would undermine the very principles of equality and fairness this law was designed to uphold. This ruling is a step towards maintaining the sanctity of our educational spaces, and I will continue to advocate for policies that respect biological realities and protect the rights of all students.”
